The highest peaks in the continental divide: Gray’s peak stands at 14,270 ft and next to it stands Torrey’s peak at 14,274 ft. Together, the native Americans referred to them as “the anthills.” The peaks were named after Asa Gray and John Torrey in 1872.
I summited Gray’s after a miserable trek to the top, but I was too wet, freezing, in pain from my back, and unable to see anything around me to continue (the rain eventually turned to snow). When I looked for the trail to Torrey’s, it was too rocky with little to no visibility to make the second summit worth spending the night on the mountain if I got off-trail. The rain started the night before and didn’t let up even after I got back.

I decided it best to trek on down the way I came. I paused for a moment when I reached the trail split for the two peaks further down the mountain and considered trying up that route, but I decided I will be back to conquer that mountain another day. I will certainly plan for better weather when I do.
